The Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, again warned the UK government that there will be no trade deal between the US and the UK if Brexit threatens the Good Friday Agreement.
Pelosi was asked about the latest Brexit developments at her weekly press conference on Capitol Hill.
He recalled a previous visit to the UK and said that at that time he had communicated with all parties: “Don’t mess with the Good Friday deals!”
Pelosi then referenced hearing the news this week that the UK had tried to review its Brexit deal.
“What were they thinking? Whatever it is, I hope they are not thinking of a bilateral trade agreement between the US and the UK.
“They will not get a reward if they undermine the Good Friday Agreement.”
Pelosi said her message to the UK government was very simple and something she had already said in the past.
“There will be no bilateral agreement between the United States and the United Kingdom if the Good Friday agreements regarding the border are changed,” he said.
“How can they walk away from an international agreement, how do you trust that?
“Their self-determination depends on them, our business relationships depend on us.”
