US President Donald Trump called the results of the US elections “a great fraud” and promised to take the process to the Supreme Court.
Trump wept over the election results during an appearance before supporters at the White House early Wednesday morning and made premature claims of victory in several key states.
But there is no evidence of foul play in the suspense and it is unclear exactly what legal action Trump might pursue.
Several states allow votes by mail to be accepted after Election Day, as long as they are postmarked Tuesday. That includes Pennsylvania, where ballots postmarked Nov. 3 can be accepted if they arrive up to three days after the election.
Trump suggested that those ballots should not be counted.
Previously, Trump seized Florida, the country’s most treasured battlefield state. The three northern industrial states of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania could now prove crucial in determining who wins the White House.
In his appearance at the White House, he affirmed that “a very sad group of people is trying to disenfranchise” their voters “and we are not going to allow it.”
He said that he and his supporters were preparing to celebrate an electoral victory and incorrectly claimed that it was all “just canceled.”
He added: “This is a fraud to the American public, this is a disgrace to our country. We were preparing to win this election, we frankly won this election. “
The focus has moved to the so-called “rust belt” after Trump led Florida along with the other decisive states of Texas, Iowa and Ohio, where Biden had made a strong game in the final stages of the campaign. – Agencies
