Danny Sheehy has become the third Irish rider to test positive for Covid-19.
Sheehy, 20, Mikey’s brother who tested positive for coronavirus on Saturday, was asymptomatic prior to testing and is now isolating himself.
Shane Crosse was the first Irish cyclist to test positive for Covid-19. He was informed of the news before competing in Limerick on Friday and as a consequence missed the trip of St Leger winner Galileo Chrome.
More Covid-19 precautionary tests were conducted over the weekend, and while Danny Sheehy’s test came back positive, all other tests, including those done via contact tracing and those from Crosse boss Joseph’s yard O’Brien, they tested negative.
Dr. Jennifer Pugh, IHRB Senior Medical Officer, said: “We are in contact with the institute of public health and help them with contact tracing and all their requirements. Public health is satisfied with all the approaches we have taken and We will continue to communicate regularly. “
The three riders who tested positive for Covid-19 will only have to isolate themselves for ten days instead of 14 after the period of self-isolation for positive cases in Ireland was shortened on Monday.
Depending on the change, the patient must be fever free for the last five days. Close contacts with Crosse and the Sheehy brothers still need to be isolated for 14 days, even if they have tested negative.
