Former Miss Universe Ireland Grainne Gallanagh celebrated last night with her sister at home after finishing the period of self-isolation.

The nurse, who spent Christmas with her family in Buncrana, Donegal, tested positive for the virus on New Year’s Eve after it emerged that her father was a close contact.

Her family became isolated together and last night, she and her sister dressed up in costumes to mark the end of their periods of isolation.

None of his family was very sick and the Letterkenny General Hospital nurse said they were all tired, coughing and had flu-like symptoms.

“Finally, officially, we came out of isolation a month later because we all had symptoms at different times,” he told his 41,000 followers on Instagram last night.

Along with their sister Gemma Gallanagh, the couple dressed to the nines last night and had a drink in celebration.

“And yeah, I’m just going for a little, very informal walk,” he said.

Ms. Gallanagh (25) called the Christmas diagnosis a “disaster” adding that it was a “horrible time of year to be sick.”

Posting a photo in the middle of isolation, he wrote: “On the ninth in isolation and we have not yet killed ourselves. So 2020 really just said it’s not done with you yet.

“Covid has a lot to answer for (we are doing well, symptoms are mild). Greetings for a better 2021.”

Despite not feeling well, Ms Gallanagh, her sister, her mother and father were apparently in good spirits.

In mid-December, Ms Gallanagh met up with DWTS friends Brian Dowling and pitcher Aidan Fogarty at the Westbury Hotel in Dublin.

Before that, he said that he had had four tests for Covid-19. The nurse explained how the four work-related tests were “unpleasant.”
