Kenny Dalglish has issued a strong defense of Neil Lennon by urging Celtic fans to look back on their coach’s past and most recent accomplishments.
Celtic fell six points behind Rangers in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday after a third straight game without a win.
Lennon has come under fire following defeats by Rangers and AC Milan and a 3-3 draw at Aberdeen, whom Celtic face in the 2019-20 William Hill Scottish Cup semifinal on Sunday in their bid for win a twelfth consecutive round at home trophy.
But Dalglish is confident Lennon’s luck will improve when lost players like Odsonne Edouard and Christopher Jullien get back in shape.
The former Celtic player and interim coach believes that the majority of Hoops fans will be after Lennon, adding: “Fortunately for everyone, I don’t see Celtic being hyperactive trying to get rid of anyone.
“They must remember what Lenny did a few years ago and remember what he did since he came back.
“Going into New Years, they were a little behind the Rangers and they sped past them and went with the league.
“Lenny is Celtic’s coach and rightly so and I don’t think Celtic people are looking in any other direction in any way, shape or form.
“Like everything else, bad news is always publicized well rather than good news, isn’t it?
“He’s been unlucky, he hasn’t had players available recently but he has some players coming back for Sunday.” The Lille game (in the Europa League on Thursday) is important but for me Sunday’s game is the most important. But I’m sure that if he doesn’t get a result against Lille, the criticism will come back. ”
The 69-year-old, who was promoting Premier Sports coverage of Sunday’s semi-final, added: “Some people want to post on social media that they are disappointed. Okay, but wait until the end of the season and see if it still They are disappointed in Lenny.
“I think it is a bit unfair considering what he has done in his four years of experience and a 77% success rate since he returned, trophies, a chance to reach another final, section champions of the Europa League last year, I don’t think I did that badly.
“I would not underestimate Lenny, I would not underestimate Celtic. They know they have to start running, but if they win the Old Firm game at Ibrox, it will go back to square one.
