The Dáil returns this afternoon after a shortened summer break with Taoiseach Micheál Martin answering questions from opposition leaders, followed by a debate on Covid-19 legislation.
Martin is also expected to appoint the new Minister of Agriculture, who will replace Dara Calleary following her resignation last month.
There was a very charged and bitter conclusion to the Dáil proceedings in late July.
The House had to be suspended twice, amid chaotic scenes and scathing exchanges over proposed speech rights amendments.
The Dáil returns at 2 p.m., after being called by Mr. Martin two weeks earlier, amid the controversy over the Covid crisis and the aftermath of the Oireachtas Golf Society dinner.
That event in Clifden led to the resignation of Mr. Calleary, and his replacement as minister, who leans broadly to be Donegal TD and Minister of State Charlie McConalogue, should be known later today.
Later there will be a debate on the proposed legislation to empower gardaí to close pubs that do not comply with public health guidelines regarding Covid-19.
Meanwhile, issues related to the return of schools will be a topical issue when the Special Covid-19 Response Committee meets at 10 a.m. M.
Officials from the nation’s teacher unions will address the committee’s opening session, before it hears from parent representatives, and Education Minister Norma Foley will appear before the third session this afternoon.
