Cuala staged a comeback in the second half to retain his Dublin Senior Hurling Championship title, defeating Ballyboden St Enda 2-20 to 1-18 in a gripping contest.

Seán Moran scored 2-3 for the reigning champions to overcome a six-point deficit in what was a team-wide clinical demonstration of shooting that accumulated just two goals in 60 minutes.

The two south side clubs have dominated the small ball scene in the capital of late, sharing 11 of the last 13 titles between them.

Such has been their role, it is difficult to believe that Sunday was the first time that the two sides had met in the decisive match.

The Firhouse Road team had won the last seven finals they competed in, Cuala had triumphed in the last four. Something had to give.

It was Ballyboden who started off most brilliantly, with Paul Ryan aiming from set balls and playing to help his team take a three-point lead. However, that was soon canceled when the Moran County star, playing on the full attack line, scored a spectacular goal to make it 1-3 to 0-6.

However, the pressure from Boden continued as they reestablished their ancestry. And when Aidan Mellett prowled from the left wing in the 24th minute, she was fouled from a penalty. Although Ryan’s shot was excellently saved by Seán Brennan, Conal Keaney was the first to react to the blows and tied it to put his team six points ahead.

Late points from Con O’Callaghan and Mark Schutte reduced the deficit for the 2017 and 2018 champions Ireland, with Boden leading 1-13 to 1-9 at the break.

A series of points from David Treacy got Dalkey’s team off to a brilliant start in the second half, and a score from Moran cut the deficit to just one at the second half water break, 1-16 to 1-15. .

The comeback was soon complete, with Moran breaking a penalty at the net. The foul was committed by Con O’Callaghan, whose explosive run forced Boden’s defense to yank his jersey.

Then both teams were down to 14 men, with Keaney and Colum Sheanon in second place.

And the increased space did better for Cuala, as more points from Treacy sealed the victory by five points.

Tipperary SHC

A late overtime goal by Bryan McLoughney sealed Kiladangan’s first Dan Breen Cup as they pulled off an epic contest, 1-28 to 3-20. The green flag came seconds after John McGrath’s 65 converts seemed to have tipped the balance in Loughmore-Castleiney’s favor, but there was to be a late turn when McLoughney’s fierce shot beat David Kennedy to ring the net.
