HSE Community Healthcare West has confirmed a Covid-19 outbreak at a community residential facility for seniors in North May.

RTÉ understands that several residents and staff have tested positive for coronavirus.

Additional HSE staff and resources have been reassigned to the facility to assist with security management and care of residents.

In a statement, the HSE said it was conducting a daily teleconference about the outbreak with the facility and Community Healthcare West.

The statement continued, “The HSE continues to provide a variety of supports to all long-term residential facilities across the country, including private nursing homes.

“This support is managed primarily through area Covid response teams and includes management support, provision of free PPE and other necessary supplies, public health and other clinical supplies, accommodation arrangements for certain personnel, support with recruitment staffing and, in some cases, the reassignment of HSE staff to support nursing homes. “

The May outbreak follows an unrelated Covid-19 outbreak at the Nightingale Nursing Home in Ahascragh, Co Galway.

The vast majority of residents and staff at the 31-bed facility were found to be infected with the virus.
