Members will not be able to enter a Dublin maternity hospital during the routine 20-22 week scan due to COVID-19 concerns.
The difficult decision has been made by Rotunda Hospital in response to the rapidly deteriorating coronavirus situation across the country.
Other provisional visitor restrictions remain unchanged for now.
The “very difficult decision” was made today by the Rotunda and the restriction will begin tomorrow.
“Due to the increase in community-acquired COVID-19 infections and the change to Level 5 restrictions, EMT has made the very difficult decision to change our visiting policy,” they said.
“Beginning Tuesday, January 5, members will no longer be able to attend the routine anatomical examination for 20 to 22 weeks.
“All other interim visiting arrangements will remain unchanged at this time.”
Health officials today announced 6,110 new cases of the coronavirus in Ireland.
That brings the total number of cases in the country since the pandemic began to 117,197.
Sadly, there have also been six more deaths from COVID-19 in the country, public health officials confirmed tonight.
3,655 of the current new cases are in Dublin.
