Dr Tony Holohan has urged people to get tested for COVID-19 after confirming that COVID hospitalizations in Ireland have passed the peak of the second wave.
The sad news came when one more death and 765 new cases of the virus were confirmed tonight.
The medical director, however, said the lower case numbers reflect “lower rates of attendance and referrals and turn-in for testing over multiple days over Christmas.”
And he has urged the Irish to get tested if they feel bad in the coming days.
“If you are not feeling well, go to the test. Know the symptoms of COVID-19 and do not delay in calling your GP for advice,” he said.
“Isolate yourself in your room if you have a cough, fever, shortness of breath, or changes in your sense of taste or smell. If you are a family contact with a confirmed case, restrict your movements until your household member receives a negative test result. the proof. . ”
Dr. Holohan also expressed concern about steep rates of increase in community positivity and hospitalizations, asking people to stay home and stay safe while the virus reappears.
“Today we report that we have already exceeded the accumulated number of people hospitalized in this third wave than in the second,” he confirmed.
“Hospitalizations have increased dramatically in the last two days. This is a worrying trend that reflects the sharp increase in incidence that we saw in the last 10 days.
“We are also seeing a sharp increase in positivity rates on community tests with a seven-day average of more than 9.2 percent versus 5.2 percent on December 18.
“This indicates that the virus is increasing its presence in our communities.
“This is just one more reason why we strongly advise everyone to stay safe at home to avoid transmitting or contracting this virus, as it continues to circulate widely.”
