Dr. Tony Holohan has shared a vital message about the importance of self-isolation after a troubling trend emerged.
The medical director said there have been “too many stories” of people failing to isolate themselves or restrict their movements.
He wrote on Twitter: “We need cases and contacts to act fully on the advice.
“There are too many stories of people with symptoms / waiting for tests and not self-isolating, also contacts that do not restrict movements.
“Spread the word and make sure we all know what to do if we contract Covid-19 OR
if we have symptoms of Covid-19 OR if we are waiting for the result of a test.
“Spread the word and make sure we all know what to do if we are a close contact for a confirmed Covid-19 case. Spread the message, not the virus.”
In a new YouTube video, the CMO shared a list of five things to do when self-isolating:
1. Avoid contact with other people, especially older people and anyone who has a long-term health condition.
2. Stay away from other people in your home.
3. Clean your room every day with disinfectant.
4. Do not go to work, school, religious services or public areas.
5. Don’t have visitors in your home.
Dr. Holohan added that people can stop self-isolating 10 days after symptoms appear and if they haven’t had a fever for 10 days.
