The number of hospitalized coronavirus patients has reached another high for the fifth day in a row.
there are now 1,421 patients in the hospital as of 8 a.m. Sunday, the highest number since the start of the pandemic.
136 patients have been hospitalized in the last 24 periods, also a new record since the start of the pandemic.
Of 1,421 in the hospital, 120 of these patients are in the ICU.
41 patients have been discharged in the last 24 hours.
HSE CEO Paul Reid said Ireland’s healthcare system is “under increasing pressure”.

He added that health chiefs track the disease by following its trends and positivity rates, which is “widespread” in the community. This also means that there is now secondary transmission within hospitals.
“We know enough from activity in community assessment centers and primary care and activity in hospitals that the disease is widespread in the community and is feeding into hospitals and is causing secondary transmission within a hospital setting, “said Dr. Henry.
However, while there is still capacity in the hospitals, the health system is particularly suffering due to staff shortages due to Covid-19 related reasons, such as being close contacts or having contracted the disease themselves.
600 beds are “lost” in acute care hospitals due to staff shortages and 800 people in nursing homes cannot go to work due to preventive control measures.
“Our people are under great pressure.
“I cannot stress enough the disruptive effect this has on healthcare due to the loss of thousands of Covid and healthcare personnel,” said Dr. Henry.
