Cover and reaction to the US presidential debate

BOTH SIDES are claiming victory in last night’s US presidential debate, but one thing a lot of people agree on is the fact that it was chaotic.

In a debate that lasted just over 90 minutes, US President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden exchanged personal insults as they presented their case to the American people before the November elections.

Fox News host and moderator Chris Wallace often struggled to control proceedings when Trump and Biden clashed over issues such as the Covid-19 pandemic, the economy, the Supreme Court and the racial divide in America.

Headlines on newspaper front pages include ‘Trump Interference Sends First Debate Into Absolute Chaos’,’ Fiery Debate Indicates A Bitter Fight Ahead ‘,’ First Debate Is A Brutal Fight ‘and’ I Have Done More In 47 months that you ‘have done it in 47 years’.

Viewers were divided over who won the debate, with many pointing out how aggressive and difficult to follow.

At one point in the debate, Biden told Trump to “shut up,” something Hillary Clinton apparently wished she had done four years ago.

On a somewhat lighter note, actor Mark Hamill said that the debate was “the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my life and I was on The Star Wars Holiday Special.”
