A father and two sons have been found dead in an alleged murder-suicide in County Cork, Ireland.

Officers were called to the property in Kanturk around 6:30 a.m. Monday after a woman in her 60s reported that a gun had been fired at her home.

Police negotiators attempted to contact anyone inside the property before approaching the home after 1 p.m.

There they discovered the body of a man in his 20s in a bedroom.

After an aerial search, the bodies of another man in his 20s and a man in his 50s were later found on adjoining land in the northeast of the county.

The men have been named locally as brothers Diarmuid and Mark O’Sullivan and father Tadgh.

All three were from the same family and all had suffered gunshot wounds, Garda Superintendent Adrian Gamble confirmed.

Gardai has said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

Describing how the incident unfolded, Gamble said: “A woman in her 60s alerted neighbors that a firearm had been fired at her home.

Gardai was then informed that there were three men in the house and that one of them may have suffered gunshot wounds.

“During the course of the morning and early afternoon, the Garda negotiators attempted to establish contact with people who may have been in the house.

“Shortly after 1:00 PM, members of the emergency response unit approached the home and, sadly, the body of a man in his 20s with a gunshot wound was discovered in a bedroom. There were no other people present. “

He added that several firearms were found at the scene and seized.

A full investigation has been launched, and the state pathologist and the Garda Technical Office are expected to visit the site.

Fianna Fail local councilman Pat Hayes said the shootings had left the community “paralyzed.”

“It is a tragedy for the family. Our thoughts, condolences and prayers are with them at this difficult time.

“It’s been a real shock to the community. We are a very close-knit community here and to be honest with you, everyone is numb.”

Fine Gael Councilor John Paul O’Shea said: “Everyone is deeply saddened and shocked by this tragedy.

“My thoughts are with the Castlemagner and Kanturk family and wider community as they come to terms with this unimaginable loss.

“There is a strong and determined community spirit in Castlemagner and the community there that I know will be joining their families, neighbors and friends in the coming days as they deal with this tragic loss.”

An appeal has been filed for witnesses or anyone with information to contact the Investigating Gardai at Mallow Garda station on 022 31450, the confidential Garda line on 1800 666 111 or at any Garda station.
