Acting Medical Director Dr. Ronan Glynn cautioned against holding gatherings, parties, christenings and other family events in Dublin in the coming weeks as Covid-19 cases on track to double the number of coronavirus cases they will double every two weeks in the capital.
It’s good that most of the broadcasting in Dublin takes place in homes, so from that perspective; family gatherings, parties, baptisms, and other family events that bring together people from various households; If possible, these should stop in the next few weeks and we are going to get this back under control, ”said Dr. Glynn.
This came as three new deaths and 84 new cases were confirmed tonight. There are 47 people hospitalized with the disease in the state, while six of these patients are in critical care settings.
Dr Glynn said that if the situation does not change in Dublin, the capital will be in a “much worse place” in the coming weeks.
“It is a significant volume of disease and it is not limited to any one setting as we have seen previously in other counties.
The CMO revealed that the disease is growing at around 5% per day in Dublin.
Dublin’s breeding rate has risen to 1.4, which is in contrast to about 1 in the state’s other 25 counties, Professor Philip Nolan revealed.
Professor Nolan said that the increase in the number of people over 85 years old who contract the virus is “very worrying”.
“We have seen a progressive and clear increase in the number of hospitalizations. Fortunately, the severity of the cases we are seeing is less, which is due to the fact that most of the cases are younger people, ”said Professor Nolan.
Dr. Colm Henry announced that 54 schools had confirmed cases of Covid-19, but all but one had an isolated case. So far, no outbreaks have been confirmed in schools.
Dr. Henry was cautiously optimistic that the reopening of the schools was not causing a community transmission, and the data was consistent with what Denmark experienced when opening the schools.
“We have seen an increase in the demand for tests, there have been about 70,000 tests in the last week, which is the highest there has been. This is most likely due to the reopening of schools. Which does not appear to negatively affect community transmission, ”Dr. Henry said.
