Health officials today announced 429 new cases of the coronavirus in Ireland.
That brings the total number of cases in the country since the pandemic began to 76,185.
There has also been one more death from COVID-19 in the country.
So far, 2,124 people have sadly lost their lives as a result of the disease.
The HSE is working to identify any contacts that patients may have had to provide them with information and advice to prevent further spread.
The COVID-19 Dashboard provides up-to-date information on key COVID-19 indicators in the community.
Of the cases reported today;
- 198 are men / 230 are women
- 66% are under 45 years old
- The average age is 34 years.
- 122 in Dublin, 46 in Donegal, 30 in Limerick, 22 in Laois, 20 in Cork and the remaining 189 cases are distributed in all other counties.
As of 2:00 p.m. today, 193 patients with COVID-19 are hospitalized, of which 31 are in the ICU. 13 additional hospitalizations in the last 24 hours.
Dr. Tony Holohan, Medical Director of the Department of Health, said; “Today, I am concerned that we are seeing the incidence of COVID-19 increasing again. 429 is a large number of cases by the standard of recent weeks and the five-day moving average has now risen above 300 per day.
“Our efforts at Level 5 in recent weeks reduced the incidence rate from 14 days to 78 per 100,000 population, placed us in a position to have the lowest incidence of disease in Europe and ultimately protected many people. and saved many lives.
“Take today’s numbers as a sign that now we all need to cut down on our social contacts, limit our interactions with those outside of our home, weigh the risks of what we are planning to socialize over the next two weeks, so that we can all have a Christmas as possible. “
