Locals have shared their anger after Gardai was forced to break “multiple” parties at home over the Easter weekend.
Officers in Co Kilkenny and Co Carlow revealed that they received multiple calls until the early hours of Sunday morning.
And Gardai was quick to remind the public that these meetings are currently illegal due to the powers of emergency coronaviruses.
A spokesperson said: “On one night that gave us the Shining the Light community initiative that showed the best of our spirit, unfortunately others fell short.
“House parties were reported in multiple places by people who prioritized their enjoyment over the safety and health of others.
“This can undo the good work and ultimately cost lives. The special measures in place mean that such meetings are illegal right now.”
“Gardai received calls until the early hours of the morning. Social estrangement becomes impossible when households mix after consuming alcohol and other toxic substances.
“The vast majority with shoulders behind the wheel in these difficult times, thank you.
“For those who fell short, please look around you and think.”
And the incidents sparked great anger among local residents.
One wrote: “Actually, they destroy souls. All of our emergency services, medical personnel, sales personnel who have no choice but to risk their lives for all of us and idiots like this who cannot see beyond their noses.
“Along with all the people who died and those who suffer from Covid-19 and it is still not enough for them to have an ounce of humanity for others.”
While another added, “Unauthorized licenses must be closed and alcohol consumption stopped. Or greatly reduced.”
