The existing Covid-19 blockade is reportedly going to last another two weeks for the “vast majority” of people.
The current restrictions expire on May 5, however, it is understood that they will only be eased for a handful of workers, including construction and horticulture workers.
It is understood that the Government wants to see key objectives to limit the spread of the virus achieved before lifting or adjusting the restrictions.
The government is due to make an announcement on Friday about the next phase as Ireland continues to fight Covid-19, reports Independent.ie.
They are also likely to outline a framework to lift restrictions on social distancing in the coming months.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar is believed to announce the lifting of the restrictions in three phases: the first will see little change to existing rules but the second will allow more people to return to work.
During the second phase, people will be able to return to their workplace if the distance rules of two meters of social distance are observed.
This may allow fast food chains to reopen, but only for takeaways.
A third phase is expected in early June that would allow those with limited interactions with colleagues to return to work.
However, it is understood that those who can work remotely can be asked to do so until September.
It is also understood that those over 70 who are currently in cocoon will be informed that they can go out to do essential exercise once a day, provided that social distancing is observed.
The National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) will meet today and is believed to be discussing whether the 2km travel ban should remain in effect.
A new meeting will take place on Friday.
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Health Minister Simon Harris will address the cabinet on the Covid-19 crisis today.
18 other deaths were confirmed yesterday and the total number of confirmed cases increased to 19,468 in the Republic of Ireland.
