Ireland has seen another drop in coronavirus cases after 226 new infections were announced on Tuesday.

But sadly, six more people have lost their lives after battling the deadly virus.

The figures were announced by the National Public Health Emergency Team tonight.

They come as the country waits with great anticipation for a decision to be made with the Level Five restrictions that expire on December 1.

The Level Three restrictions are likely to be implemented with some changes to the plan, including strict restrictions regarding wet bars.

However, it is understood that restaurants and bars that serve food may open with established security measures.

Retail establishments may welcome customers before the holiday season, while golf courses, gyms and leisure centers are also expected to return.

In the meantime, the travel ban is likely to be lifted, meaning people will be able to leave their county if they want to visit family members over the Christmas period.

The Cabinet met today to discuss the ongoing debate, which follows a meeting of government party leaders on Monday.

The National Public Health Emergency Team is supposed to meet on Thursday before making a recommendation to the Government, but this meeting is believed to be held earlier.

Taoiseach Micheal Martin is expected to make an announcement on Thursday, however this has yet to be confirmed.
