A high school in North Cork has told parents that there is a confirmed case of Covid-19 within the school community.

Presentation Secondary School, Mitchelstown sent a message to parents yesterday that someone inside the school has contracted the virus.

In a message to parents, teachers at the school said that all close contacts in the case had been notified.

“A confirmed case of Covid-19 has been confirmed at your child’s school and the Department of Public Health HSE Sur has been notified.

“A public health risk assessment has been carried out. Parents of children considered close contacts of the confirmed case have been contacted and informed accordingly.”

This is the third Cork high school to have confirmed a case of the virus in recent days.

Yesterday, the parents of more than 1,000 students at Carrigaline Community School were notified of a confirmed case of Covid-19 at the school.

Two cases were also recorded at Douglas Community School on Monday and the HSE told parents the cases are linked and the transmission is believed to have occurred outside of the school.

In all cases of a confirmed case, full risk assessments are carried out immediately, parents are informed as soon as possible, and public health and public health services provide tips and resources to inform parents and limit risk for staff and students.

Parents are asked to closely monitor their children for symptoms, including cough, fever, changes, or loss of the sense of smell or taste.

If parents notice or suspect any of these symptoms, they are asked to contact their GPs and begin to restrict their children’s movements.

Parents seeking more information are directed to the Health Protection Surveillance Center website, where they can find more information on restricting movement and general advice on staying safe.
