Coronation Street paid tribute to the recently deceased actor Mark Eden.

The actor who played Alan Bradley on the popular UK soap opera was one of the most notorious villains on the show, so it makes sense for soap opera bosses to pay tribute to the star.

The 92-year-old actor, who had been living with Alzheimer’s disease, died early on New Year’s Day.

His agent confirmed in a statement that he had been in the hospital since November and died peacefully in the early hours of January 1.

The show bosses shared a tribute to Mark on Instagram along with a photo of the actor after news of his death was reported, writing: “We are very sad to hear that Mark Eden passed away peacefully, in hospital, earlier today.

“Our love and our thoughts are with Sue, her family and friends at this time.”

The actor was married to Coronation Street star Sue Nicholls, who plays Audrey Roberts.

Mark’s agent said: “Mark had a long career spanning over 50 years, including eight years on Coronation Street.

“He is survived by his wife Sue, daughter Polly, stepson Saul and granddaughter Emma. We ask that her privacy be respected at this difficult time.”

Mark Eden’s character Alan Bradley, whose daughter Jenny is the Rovers’ current landlord, was one of Weatherfield’s most notorious villains.

As one of the soap opera’s biggest bad boys in the late 1980s, he cheated on Rita Fairclough several times during their relationship and then rebooked her house for his own financial gain.

After Rita reported the fraud, he attempted to suffocate her with a cushion, and after being convicted of fraud and actual bodily harm, he only received a brief jail sentence.

The actor eventually continued his torment of Rita, who fled the street to get rid of Alan. However, she was eventually located in Blackpool in one of the series’ most iconic scenes where Alan met his doom after being his on a train while chasing Rita.

The episode was watched by 21.4 million viewers, and Mark Eden later revealed a plaque in his honor at the tram stop where the scene was filmed.
