Cadogan has returned to training after an injury, but will not be considered for Saturday’s trip to Thurles.
Cork’s pitchers will face Saturday’s Munster Championship semifinal against Waterford without the services of Eoin Cadogan, Darragh Fitzgibbon and Robbie O’Flynn.
Former dual player Cadogan and 2017 All-Star Fitzgibbon have been ruled out with injury, while O’Flynn is suspended due to a red card received for a high tackle to Fintan Burke in the Rebels’ final National League game in March.
“It’s no different than most teams with the response time that we have, we have one or two players that are definitely out,” coach Kieran Kingston said Monday night.
“Eoin Cadogan is definitely out, Darragh Fitzgibbon is definitely out and Robbie O’Flynn is out for a suspension he received in the last league game in Galway on March 1.
“It really is kind of crazy that he’s missing an inter-county championship game because of a game in a different world.”
Fitzgibbon has established himself as one of Lee-siders’ key players since he burst onto the scene in 2017.
Kingston is in charge of his first championship match since Ireland’s 2017 semi-final loss to Déise, but preparations have been far from ideal.
“There are a couple of injured players who have come back from the club championship,” he said.
“Our guys from the county finals just came back two weeks ago. We had a significant number of guys involved in the county finals that weekend, some of them have some criticism. We will have to assess that as the week progresses.
“We had a great club championship, a lot of guys raised their hands during the club championship, it’s hard to get some playing time in the two weeks you have when you don’t have a National League or any real preparation. The second thing is not having the opportunity to see the U-20s throughout the year limits your options as you head into this different kind of season. “
