THE GAA is moving forward with its plans to run the remaining Allianz Football League matches before the championship begins in November.
Cork will meet Louth at 4pm on Saturday of the week in Páirc Uí Chaoimh and then travel to Longford the following Sunday. Ronan McCarthy’s team only needs a draw in either game to seal promotion to Division 2 for 2021.
On Thursday morning it had been speculated that the Association would cancel those league ties to move forward with the championship, where the Cork players host Kerry on November 8 at the Páirc.
That’s direct competition by knockout, although there is a back door for pitchers if they are defeated by Waterford on Oct. 31.
Juvenile activity is also anticipated to continue among counties, despite concerns about increasing Covid cases across the country.
Cork’s junior pitchers will face Clare on Saturday, October 17 at Thurles. It will be the first game in which a Cork team has participated, a few hours before Cork and Longford, as the club season gives way to the inter-county phase.
While club games are on hold until the GAA conducts a new review, inter-county teams must play behind closed doors for the next several weeks.
The junior pitchers, led by Donal Óg Cusack, are the first in action, with the winners back at Semple Stadium on the last Friday in October against Limerick. The other semi-final will take place at Páirc Uí Rinn, where Waterford will face Tipperary or Kerry.
The Munster final is scheduled for November 14.
Spectators will not be admitted, but one of the parents of each minor pitcher will be allowed entry as that grade is U17. It won’t be the same for the under-20s, although parents will be able to wait nearby in the parking lot.
Pat Ryan is leading that team, which will head to Tralee on Monday, October 19, for the quarterfinals against Kerry. If the rebels win, they will head to the Gaelic Grounds the following Monday to face Limerick.
The other side of the picture sees Waterford versus Limerick or Clare. The final is available for November 11.
The Cork U20s season ended before the initial Covid lockdown, in a loss at Kerry, while the minors are out of the Kingdom on Saturday, November 7.
Challenge matches between minor and under-20 counties were suspended last Wednesday by the GAA.
A Croke Park circular read: “For minor inter-county games or training sessions organized behind closed doors and because they involve players 17 and under, no more than one designated person (parent / guardian) should attend a session. of training or game per child / family / group of children “.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports decided that all of their games will be on Sky Sports Mix, which means that all Sky customers, even those who don’t have a Sky Sports subscription, can watch those hurling and soccer draws.
The Cork hurlers’ Munster semi-final against Waterford on Halloween is included in the exclusive matches they have selected. They will also show two hurling qualifiers and a hurling quarter-final, which could also involve Kieran Kingston’s team.
Sky Sports Mix is available in approximately 900,000 homes in Ireland. They will also show the semi-finals and finals in both codes, but they will also be on RTE.
