Strange holes, some covered in cut flowers and greenery, have been dug in Cork city center.

The Cork City Council alerted Gardaí of the damage and an investigation is underway by the council.

Sweepers discovered the holes early Sunday morning.

Two holes were found dug in the path opposite the Waterstones bookstore on Paul St.

The removed bricks were carefully stacked next to the holes, with a yellow flower placed in the middle.

The flowers, which look like yellow springs and pale purple pansies, had been placed inside the holes.

Another hole was found in a side street leading to Paul St towards Lavitt’s Pier.

The removed bricks were stacked again next to the damage.

A fourth hole was found outside of Vibes and Scribes, another book and craft store, on the Lavitt Pier. This hole was full of branches and vegetation. The removed bricks were stacked next to the hole again.

The Cork City Council described the holes as “strange” and is currently searching for CCTV in the area.

A council spokesperson said the first brick would be difficult to remove, but the following would be relatively easy to remove.

Each individual brick would have to be removed from its place individually, but with the right tools, this would not be difficult, they said.
