A radio and a lamp were thrown at a young woman in a prolonged assault by her partner, who also repeatedly hit her with a scart cable.

Jason Ring, 31, of Liam Healy Road, Farranree, Cork, pleaded guilty to one count of battery causing injury to his partner on August 11, 2019.

Detective Sergeant Kieran O’Sullivan said the couple were back together at the time.

Judge Seán Ó Donnabháin said that one of her injuries, a closed head wound, was extremely serious, but when he asked the victim how she was doing, she said that she was perfect, that they were back together and that everything was fine because Jason Ring had changed and given up. alcohol and drugs.

Det. Sergeant. O’Sullivan said: “In my opinion, it’s a time bomb.”

Defense attorney John Devlin accepted that it was a nasty assault, but added: “He is deeply sorry and sorry. Apologized. The relationship appears to be strong. ”

Judge Ó Donnabháin said: “This assault ended in this woman having to go to the hospital. It was a prolonged assault for no reason for several hours. And he used an implement.

“Unfortunately for the now reconciled couple, the public – the court, the guards, the doctors – are now involved in their relationship. I’m sure they don’t want that, but when you bring the outside world into your relationship in this way, others have to make decisions.

“This was a very nasty assault in the night. Even taking into account all the positive aspects… it is worth a custodial sentence. I will keep it as short as possible under the circumstances and fix it at nine months in prison. ”

Det. Sergeant. O’Sullivan said Ring hit his partner on the head and body after throwing a radio and a lamp at him. The assault lasted for a few hours during which he hit her all over the body with the scart.

At around 5 a.m. he said he had to go to the bathroom and took this opportunity to run to the safety of a neighbor’s house.
