Cork kindergarten confirms Covid-19 case as urgent letter sent to parents

A Cork nursery has confirmed a positive case of coronavirus by sending an urgent letter to parents.

Authorities said the confirmed case last attended school on October 1.

It was not clear whether the infected patient was a student or a staff member.

The letter sent to the parents reads: “A confirmed case of Covid-19 in your child’s daycare has been notified to the HSE-South Department of Public Health.

“A public health risk assessment has been carried out.

“If your child has symptoms, he should isolate himself immediately and call his GP for further advice.

“All household contacts must also restrict their movements and remain at home until the test result is known.”

The letter was sent to the parents and guardians of the children at the school on Tuesday.

All children who are considered close contacts have been asked to restrict their movements for 14 days since the beginning of October.

All other children who are not considered close contacts can continue to attend school.

The rest of the nursery continues to function normally.

It comes after a school in Co Longford was forced to close yesterday after a confirmed case of coronavirus.

Mean Scoil Mhuire, a girls’ high school in Longford City, closed Thursday due to the positive test.

School officials said several staff members had been identified as close contacts.

A text sent to parents read: “A confirmed case of Covid-19 in Mean Scoil Muire has been notified to the HSE.

“A public health risk assessment has been conducted and parents have been informed of any close contacts. Many staff members have been identified as close contacts and sent home.

“As a consequence, it is not possible to keep the school open.

“Please make arrangements to pick up your daughter as soon as possible today.”

Parents and guardians were told that more arrangements will be distributed later tonight.

Children who are not close contacts do not need to be tested.

However, the HSE asks parents to be vigilant, and if any child exhibits symptoms they should contact their GP.
