Conor McGregor has stated that he will face former rival Dustin Poirier for charity on broadcast television in Dublin this December.
The exhibition fight between the two was teased in a Twitter exchange on Monday.
And Crumlin’s man has apparently made moves to quickly seal the deal when he announced the fight with an official poster tonight.
The ad read: “Martial Arts Combat Match in Aid of Charity. Dublin, December 12, 2020.
“Free to air the spar. McGregor against Poirier.
“List of chosen charities available soon. All donations are welcome.”
While no location was specified, the former two-weight world champion dropped 3Arena’s old name, The Point, during open discussion.
The UFC rivals, who fought four years ago, struck a deal for a charity rematch on Dec. 12.
McGregor stopped Poirier in his official fight, but reached out to his former rival on Twitter Monday night.
“Hey bro! Do you want to do an MMA charity fight?” he wrote. “I have nothing to do with the UFC; I will donate half a million to their charity.
“Sell it on PPV or work on a TV deal and we work for other charities that are close to my heart as well. I’m involved in a lot. Strictly a charity ‘show’.
“December 12 at Point Depot, Ireland. No weigh-ins. Open weight, unified rules. I will organize all travel expenses for you and your family.”
Poirier, who was due to fight Tony Ferguson next month but was later unable to reach an agreement with the UFC on his portfolio, was quick to agree.
“I’m in! Let’s do it! A lot of people will benefit from this,” he said.
Poirier later suggested a boxing exhibition, but McGregor insisted it must be mixed martial arts.
McGregor hasn’t fought since he detained Donald Cerrone in January and has recently been in dispute with UFC president Dana White.
McGregor leaked direct messages between the two that showed him asking for another three fights in 2020, culminating in a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
But due to the coronavirus crisis, the UFC deemed it unfeasible for McGregor to fight behind closed doors due to the loss of entry receipts.
McGregor then turned his attention to Manny Pacquiao and the pair confirmed last weekend that they were close to agreeing to a fight early next year.
That’s still the case, but McGregor has now clouded the situation a bit with his offer to Poirier.
