Conor McGregor has been arrested for alleged attempted sexual assault and alleged indecent exposure in Corsica.
The former two-peso UFC champion has been in the region preparing for a 180km trip that was to raise awareness about water safety.
He was scheduled to start the trip today with Princess Charlene of Monaco, but was forced to withdraw.
According to the AFP news agency, McGregor was arrested and taken into custody following an alleged incident.
A statement from the prosecutor said: “Following a complaint filed on September 10 denouncing acts that could be described as attempted sexual assault and sexual exhibition, Mr. Conor Anthony Mac Gregor was the subject of a hearing by the police “.
A representative for McGregor told TMZ Sports: “Conor McGregor strongly denies any allegations of misconduct.”
“He has been interviewed and released.”
McGregor has spent several weeks in the area while preparing for the charity event.
He also attended the start of the Tour de France last month alongside the Princess and Prince Albert II.
McGregor has also joined his fiancee Dee Devlin after the wrestler proposed to his long-term girlfriend over the summer.
The Dubliner hasn’t fought since he beat Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds in January.
His plans to fight three times this year were shattered by the coronavirus crisis and he retired in June for the third time in four years.
But he had hinted at a comeback this week when it emerged that he is still in the USADA testing pool and was asked to take a drug test while on his £ 3 million yacht.
