Conor McGregor 2020 in review of the arrest scandal, heartbreak and compromise

Conor McGregor had another year to remember in 2020, despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Notorious started the year with a fight against UFC veteran Donald Cerrone in Las Vegas and destroyed the American in just 40 seconds.

McGregor had planned to fight three times in the past 12 months before the coronavirus brought the sport to a halt around the world.

However, he still had a busy year as he became engaged to his partner Dee Devlin and made a number of financial investments, while also purchasing a large supply of PPE for front-line staff in Ireland and abroad.

But there were also legal problems for the former two-peso champion, from automobile crimes to naming rights for sportswear bearing his last name.

In September, McGregor was arrested for alleged attempted sexual assault and indecent exposure in France, but was released without charge and “vigorously denies any allegations of misconduct.”

Here’s McGregor’s year in review:

January 19: Defeat Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds at UFC 246 in Las Vegas.

26 of January: Attend the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

January 29: He is exempt from prosecution for traffic offenses in the Dublin District Court. He did not attend the hearing, but his case was dismissed.

February 22: His brand of whiskey Proper 12 sponsors the heavyweight boxing rematch between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder in Las Vegas. McGregor says he is “honored” to sponsor him.

March 14: “Stupid” coronavirus explosion after the death of his aunt. She later clarifies that she did not die from the virus.

March 16: It closes its SBG gym in Naas as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

March 22: He posts a video urging the Irish public to “stay alert” in the battle against Covid-19.

March 24th: Call on the Irish government to close airports to help stop the spread of the virus.

March 25th: It announces that it is buying PPE worth € 1 million to distribute to frontline workers.

April 8: He announces that the houses he paid to be built for the homeless in Dublin are ready to move.

April 11: The PPE paid for by him is delivered to hospitals throughout Ireland.

April 16th: He engages in a heated debate on Twitter with Sinead O’Connor about more than 1,500 temporary workers moving to Ireland to work in the fruit and vegetable industry.

April 22: He loses a three-year legal battle with a clothing company founded by a Scotsman for sportswear bearing his last name.

April 29: His famous “F *** you” suit design turns into a coronavirus mask.

April 30th: Donate € 20,000 to Robbie and Claudine Keane’s fundraiser for hospitals. Visit Crumlin Children’s Hospital to deliver medical supplies.

May 6th: UFC President Dana White claims McGregor wants to fight in June.

May 7: Accept the challenge to fight against boxing legend Oscar de la Hoya. The fight never happens.

May 11: He vows to kill fellow UFC fighter Justin Gaethje after the American made a personal inquiry into him as a father.

15 th of May: The odds of him becoming the next president of Ireland are reduced to 20/1 from 500/1.

May 16: Make a donation of € 50,000 for the charity marathon cycle of an eight-year-old.

May 28: He claims to have accepted a super fight with UFC legend Anderson Silva. It never happens.

May 29: The Forbes Rich List reports that McGregor has raised more than € 43 million in the past year.

June 1: Share a strange video of himself eating dead bees online.

June 7th: He announces his retirement from MMA for the third time in four years. He claims that “the game just doesn’t excite him anymore.”

June 20th: UFC boss Dana White claims that McGregor has indeed retired despite skepticism from many.

June 25th: The Highway Safety Authority criticizes McGregor for filming himself while driving a Bentley convertible. The RSA says: “Those who have a high profile in society have an additional responsibility to practice good road safety habits, as their behavior can often influence the behavior of those who admire them.”

1st of July: He mocks the WWE appearance and fights with the head of the promotion, Vince McMahon, 75.

3rd of July: Pay tribute to Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov after the death of Khabib’s father. The 57-year-old man died of complications from the coronavirus.

July 9th: Dana White says she believes McGregor will fight again in early 2021, less than three weeks after stating that Dubliner had actually retired.

July 14: Celebrate her 32nd birthday with Dee Devlin in the south of France.

July 20th: Hang out with the Prince and Princess of Monaco in Corsica.

July 25: He is invited to train with Real Madrid by his captain Sergio Ramos after posting a video of him playing soccer on social media.

August 8: Announces commitment to long-term partner Dee Devlin

August 10: His company makes a “significant investment” in Dublin’s Lourdes Celtic football club. McGregor played for the club when he was young, as did Katie Taylor, Damien Duff and Niall Quinn.

August 12: He joins the team of the Princess of Monaco for a Marathon Endurance race across the Mediterranean, scheduled for September. You have to retire one month after being arrested.

August 29: Attend the Tour de France launch with the Prince and Princess of Monaco.

September, 10th: He is subjected to anti-doping tests aboard his € 3 million superyacht off the coast of southern France by the United States Anti-Doping Agency.

11 of September: Arrested for alleged attempted sexual assault and indecent exposure. He is released without charge and “vigorously denies any allegation of misconduct.”

September 14: He says he “cannot continue” in a concerning post on social media after the arrest. She adds, “I’m trying to stay strong for my kids and the people who trust me and love and support me.”

September 15: Rage “I will never kill myself” on a Facebook post rambling on trolls, adding: “Try to prepare me all you want over and over again, the truth will always set me free!”

September 25th: He says his next fight will be against Manny Pacquiao in the Middle East, just over three months after announcing his retirement.

September 29th: Set up an exhibition fight with Dustin Poirier in Dublin to raise money for charity. The fight is scheduled for December, but was moved to January in Abu Dhabi after the UFC got involved.

October 12: Manny Pacquiao signs with McGregor’s management company, which makes a fight between them much easier to do in the future.

October 14th: Spend 3 million euros on a luxurious new Lamborghini yacht. There are only 63 of the model in the world.



Conor McGregor was arrested at the Calvi Gendarmerie on September 11 for alleged acts of exhibitionism in a bar in the city. Several gendarmes appeared at the quai d’honneur on Friday morning to summon the boxer who appeared that same day at the gendarmerie where he was interrogated in police custody.

October 24th: Khabib Nurmagomedov retires after beating Justin Gaethje. McGregor responds by tweeting: “Good performance @TeamKhabib. I will carry on. Respect and condolences to your father again too. For you and your family. Sincerely, The McGregors. ”

31 October: Enjoy the Halloween party at home with Dee Devlin and her children, Conor Jr and Croia, as fans around the world dress up as the Irishman.

November 6th: He is named “Hero of the Day” by Fox News because his whiskey company donated 1 million euros to the Tunnel To Towers Foundation, which supports the families of frontline workers who lost their lives due to Covid-19 in U.S.

November 15: Photos emerge from his training camp in Portugal as he prepares for the Poirier fight.
