Galway Bay fm press room – A lone hiker who got into trouble in Connemara was rescued safely from a mountain last night amid ‘horrendous’ weather conditions.
A rapid response climbing group from Galway Mountain Rescue was deployed to Benbreen in the 12 Bens mountain range late yesterday afternoon following a request from the Gardaí.
They had to deal with severe weather conditions on steep and rugged uphill terrain.
The lone hiker was discovered near the top of Benbreen and was uninjured, but was treated for exposure at the scene before being chased off the mountain shortly before 10 p.m.
Galway Mountain Rescue says the incident highlights the serious risk associated with venturing into remote highland terrain during a weather advisory.
He adds that he strongly recommends that due attention is always paid to weather forecasts and route planning before embarking on such a hike.
