Concern for Dublin and Limerick as one death and 307 confirmed cases

Higher Education Minister Simon Harris said the National Public Health and Emergency Team (NPHET) is concerned about the increase in cases in Dublin and Limerick.

Speaking tonight, Mr. Harris said that we are in a “delicate moment” regarding the virus and we must “redouble our efforts” when it comes to public health guidelines.

He added that “there is a particular concern highlighted by NPHET regarding Dublin and Limerick at this time.”

It comes like tonight. The Health Department confirmed that there was one death from Covid-19 and another 307 cases.

There have now been a total of 1,778 COVID-19 related deaths in Ireland.

With 307 cases tonight, it marks the highest number of cases since May 14.

There are now a total of 30,080 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Ireland.

Of the cases announced tonight: 160 are men, while 146 are women, 73% are under 45 years old, 64% are confirmed to be associated with outbreaks or are close contacts of a confirmed case.

The Health Department said 72 cases have been identified as community transmission

Most of the current cases are in Dublin, with 182 in all. Elsewhere, there are 25 in Kildare, 19 in Limerick, 15 in Wexford, 15 in Louth, eight in Wicklow, six in Galway, six in Clare, six in Kilkenny and the remaining 25 cases are in Cavan, Cork, Donegal, Kerry, Longford, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, Sligo, Tipperary, Waterford, Westmeath.

Acting Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ronan Glynn said:

“182 of the current cases are in Dublin and at least 44 of them are associated with community transmission.

“I urge everyone to follow public health advice and stay away. Don’t underestimate the risks associated with any of your interactions, even with your family, friends, or coworkers. Now is not the time to lower your guard; assume that you or those you know can be contagious and act accordingly. ”

There are currently 49 people hospitalized with Covid-19 and another six in the ICU.

Yesterday 102 new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed in the Republic, according to the Department of Health.
