The man who tragically died after an accident in Cork on Saturday was locally named Pete Newman.
Pete, 70, was hit by a pickup truck in the College Corinthians parking lot in Douglas around 3:30 p.m.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but sadly he was unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead before they could take him to hospital.
Gardai cordoned off the area and a forensic examination was carried out, while the club suspended all activities “until further notice”.
They paid tribute to Pete, who they said was “loved and respected” by everyone present.
They said: “The club wishes to express our deepest condolences to the family of Peter (Pete) Newman, who passed away today after a tragic accident. Pete was loved and respected by everyone at Corinthians and we will sadly miss him. May he rest in peace.”

Gardai has also asked witnesses to contact them at Anglesea station.
In an earlier statement, a spokesperson said: “Gardaí is currently at the scene of a fatal collision, which occurred in a parking lot of a sports field in Donnybrook, Douglas, Co. Cork, on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at approximately 3:30 pm.
“The collision involved a van and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a man in his 70s, was fatally injured. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The scene is now being examined by forensic collision investigators.
“Gardaí is appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have information or images from the camera (including the dash cam) to contact the Garda Anglesea Street station on 021 452 2000, the confidential line from Garda at 1800 666 111 or any Garda station. “
