Seventeen staff members at a Co Louth bakery tested positive for Covid-19, leading to the closure of the business.
McCloskeys’ bakery site in Ballymakenny, Drogheda was closed on Friday after the outbreak that occurred last week.
Along with the bakery, the outlets selling their products in Drogheda, Navan and Dundalk have been temporarily closed.
The bakery employs about 200 people at all its outlets.
The family business turns 80 this year and sells its products across Ireland, including at Tesco and Supervalu.
In a statement he stated: “In a situation like this, our first responsibility is the well-being of our workforce. It is also important to us to take the strongest public health action possible.
“Due to the interruption of our bakery production, our six points of sale will also be temporarily closed.
“Our intention is to reopen our bakery site and our stores as soon as possible.
“During our 80-year history as a family business, Christmas has always been a very important time of year for McCloskeys.
“This year we ask our customers and friends to bear with us as we, like many others, manage to get through this challenging period.”
