A southern fried chicken product has been recalled due to the presence of salmonella.
The batch of Roosters Southern Fried Poppin ‘Chicken sold at Aldi has been recalled from the shelves.
The chicken comes in a 210g package under the approval number PL 10610342 WE.
The affected product originates from Poland and has the batch number L: 15320 and the expiration date before 05/25/2022.
A notice posted on the Irish Food Safety Authority website read: “Recall notices at outlets will be displayed in stores supplied with the implicated batch. The implicated batch was sold at Aldi stores.” .
Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever, headache, and abdominal cramps.
Infected people usually develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can vary between six and 72 hours.
A spokesperson for FSAI said: “The most common symptom is diarrhea, which can sometimes be bloody. Other symptoms can include fever, headache, and abdominal cramps.
“The illness usually lasts four to seven days. Sometimes the diarrhea can be severe enough to require hospital admission. The elderly, infants, and people with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a serious illness.”
Retailers are asked to remove the involved lot from sale and to display a point of sale recall notice in stores where the affected lot was sold.
Customers who have already purchased the affected product should not eat it.
