Speaking on RTE’s Drivetime, the brave activist revealed: “My cancer is back, I’m just buying time, I know.

“What is happening in recent weeks is that I have a new tumor, the first in two and a half years.”

Ms. Phelan was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2014, after receiving an incorrect smear result that did not detect any abnormalities in 2011.

Despite the sad health development, the mother insisted that she will continue to work as an activist for as long as possible, insisting that such efforts “help me not to think about things.”

BRAVE ACTIVIST CONTINUES CAMPAIGN

Speaking of her condition on social media, she said: “I’ve been delaying sharing news that my cancer is growing back (slowly, thankfully).

“I needed time to assimilate this news and for my family and friends to assimilate it as well.

“In addition to the growth in three tumors, I have developed a new tumor (tiny – 3 mm) in my lung.”

She added: “I am actively researching options at the moment and apart from episodes of extreme tiredness at times, I am very lucky not to report any other symptoms at this time.

“I will continue to campaign with 221+ for a Court that meets the needs of women and families affected by the CervicalCheck scandal because one of our main requests is focused on serving women who experience a recurrence, like me.”

Vicky has recently criticized the Government for its planned CervicalCheck tribunal saying that the investigation established to investigate negligence in Ireland’s cancer screening program “is not fit for purpose”.
