BIG WEEKEND: Liverpool v Arsenal, Silva, Wilder, Man Utd
“There is no doubt that Arsenal are back with Mikel Arteta,” Carragher said. Sky sports. “I think it was a brilliant signing.
“I am so impressed with the way that he is managing that team. I think we would all say that the team still needs a lot more work to get back to the level that Arsenal fans want.
“But what he has done with the squad he has inherited is fantastic. To win the FA Cup, beat Liverpool a couple of times in the league and Community Shield, that’s something Liverpool will want to fix.
“But it’s a completely different proposition for this Arsenal team to come to Anfield than it was last season when Unai Emery’s Arsenal arrived very early in the season.”
On his chances of finishing in the top four this season, Carragher added: “I don’t think many people had them in the top four predictions before the start of the season, I know I certainly didn’t.
“I know it’s the early days, but you see the performance of other teams in the early weeks and I think they will be a much stronger proposition for the Champions League places than we initially thought.
“[Arsenal’s fixtures] They are difficult games on paper, but you can be sure that now they will be difficult for opponents, whereas in the past people thought that with Arsenal you can intimidate them and maybe turn them around in certain games. They are a much stronger proposition now under Mikel Arteta. “
