Jamie Carragher responded to Jurgen Klopp after the Liverpool manager criticized him for criticizing the club’s transfer business.

Virgil van Dijk will miss several months due to a knee injury Jordan Pickford’s reckless defiance during Saturday’s Merseyside derby.

That leaves Klopp with Joe Gomez and Joel Matip as the top two center-backs with midfielder Fabinho available to cover him.

Carragher hinted that Liverpool could have done it by bringing another defender in Sky Sports Monday Night Football and Klopp wasn’t happy with those comments.

“We entered the season with three centers plus Fabinho as a cover and some youngsters,” Klopp said at his press conference before their Champions League clash against Ajax on Wednesday.

“It is difficult to have four world-class center halves.

“If someone wants to tell us we made a mistake, I think Carragher already mentioned it, there are some reasons why they don’t do this job.”

However, Carragher responded by tweeting: “Not once this season did I say it was a mistake that Klopp didn’t buy a center-back for the exact reason he says.”

Speaking in Monday night football Earlier in the week, Carragher said: “Dejan Lovren left and they didn’t replace him, so they only have three center-backs and one of them, Joel Matip, is always injured.

Now there are question marks on Joe Gomez. So there is no doubt that Liverpool had to go big in the transfer market.

On whether Liverpool can win the title without Van Dijk, Carragher added: “History says no.

“What I mean by that is that when I came back in the mid-80s, I went through champions trying to retain titles, I went back to greats like Virgil van Dijk.

“Everton in 1986 lost Southall through injury, Liverpool won. In 1988, Alan Hansen, who was the Virgil van Dijk of that time, was injured in the preseason, Arsenal won the league. Cantona missed half a season with his incident, Blackburn won the title. Laporte misses part of the season. Man City loses the league.

“I think if van Dijk is fit for the whole season, Liverpool will win the league. Now without him it opens enormously. The loss of van Dijk speaks for itself.

“We are talking about the best player and the most valuable player in the Premier League. The reason van Dijk was more valuable, I would say De Bruyne, but he gets injured, but van Dijk was because he never missed a game. “
