The Criminal Assets Office has seized several vehicles after searching a “heavily fortified compound” in Crumlin, south of Dublin this morning.
Two men were arrested after officers recovered ten motorcycles, including a BMW and a Harley Davidson, a BMW car, a Ford Ranger jeep, a Volkswagen Scirocco, and 4,000 euros in cash.
The CAB says the operation targeted a criminal group aligned with a “number of organized crime groups involved in drug trafficking and organized crime nationwide.”
In a statement, they said: “The Office for Criminal Assets conducted a search operation in the South Dublin area this morning, Tuesday 20 October 2020. The search operation involved the search for a single heavily fortified compound.
“The search operation was carried out by the Criminal Assets Office together with Crumlin District personnel and with the support of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU), the Air Support Unit, the Armed Support Unit and the Unit Customs Dogs – Today’s operation is part of an ongoing investigation by the Crumlin District Office of Criminal Assets and Detective Unit.
‘SIGNIFICANT DEVELOPMENT’
“During the operation this morning, two men were arrested and detained for money laundering offenses. They are currently detained under the provisions of Article 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Garda stations in the metropolitan region of Dublin.
Today’s search operation targeted a criminal group aligned with several organized crime groups involved in drug trafficking and organized crime nationwide.
“Today marks a significant advance in an ongoing investigation into money laundering and proceeds of crime.”
Prior to today’s seizure, CAB says that € 125,417 in cash, 7,600 pounds in cash and $ 674 in cash have been recovered as part of the investigation.
