A dominant second-half performance has moved Dr. Crokes within an hour of his fifth consecutive final appearance in County Kerry.
Without a full stack between the teams during the first half and early in the second period, Crokes prevailed in the fourth quarter, kicking 1-3 with no response to win the semifinals with seven to spare.
Edmund O’Sullivan’s men won the second half 1-6 to 0-4, a true reflection of their superiority in changing sides. This is further underscored by the 20+ minutes that Templenoe was unable to add to his account.
The Crokes’ goal came a minute before the end of regulation, Tony Brosnan put it on a layup for half-time substitute Gavin White, who tapped the ball into the net.
Brosnan was once again Crokes’ star performer, expelling four from the game and another four split between marks and free.
Crokes led 0-10 to 0-7 at halftime, Lewis Road’s men put the least of the daylight between them and last year’s county intermediate champions as they surpassed the five unanswered points approaching halftime. to go from one in arrears to 0-10 to 0-6 up front.
Before the Crokes explosion, there was absolutely nothing to separate the sides. It was score for score for the first 23 minutes, this quarterfinal level six times, as Templenoe, brimming with confidence from his win on Dingle ground last time, was in no way fazed by the black and amber jersey.
The first quarter was much less Crokes against Templenoe as Tony Brosnan against Killian Spillane. The latter, who was giving Fionn Fitzgerald a torrid time, kicked five points, three from play, while at the other end Tony Brosnan, who had Tadhg Morley in all sorts of trouble, raised four white flags.
Micheál Burns’ white flag in the 20th minute was the first score of the game that didn’t come off Spillane or Brosnan’s boot.
It was the latter who would become the most impressive screen of the second half and it was Brosnan’s team that advanced.
