Broadway star Nick Cordero was removed from a respirator after undergoing a successful procedure to insert a breathing tube, his wife said.

Cordero, nominated for the Tony Award, was placed in intensive care shortly after being admitted to a Los Angeles hospital in March with a coronavirus.

Last month, a 41-year-old man had his leg amputated due to complications from the disease and had been on a ventilator after his lungs were “seriously damaged.”

His wife, Amanda Kloots, has been sharing updates with fans on social media and on Friday revealed that a tracheostomy tube had been successfully inserted into her neck, allowing her to exit the ventilator.

Kloots said on Instagram: “We have been trying to do this for Nick for so many weeks and he was still stagnant and behind due to his health and now he was finally healthy enough to have the windpipe and the fan was not working.” .

“This is just amazing news because we really needed this to happen to get him out of the fan. I think you will feel better, even unconsciously you will feel better.

“I hope this is just a great sign for a few days of good recovery ahead and for him to wake up and have that relief from the pressure on his throat.” Thank God.”

Cordero, the father of one, was admitted to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after testing positive for Covid-19.

His wife has led the #WakeUpNick campaign, which has been endorsed by several celebrities, including her close friend actor Zach Braff.

Cordero played a mafia soldier on the 2014 Broadway show Bullets Over Broadway, for which he received a Tony nomination for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical.

Her television roles include Blue Bloods and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
