A British vacationer died in hospital after being taken unconscious from the pool of a four-star hotel in Lanzarote.
The woman was in cardiac arrest when she was found and revived at the scene by a lifeguard and emergency personnel.
The island’s police confirmed today that she had lost her fight for life after being rushed to the Doctor José Molina Hospital in the island’s capital, Lanzarote.
A routine investigation into his death is now underway, coordinated by a local court.
Staff at the four-star HL Rio Playa raised the alarm shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday.
It is understood that the deceased was staying at the hotel with her partner.
There were conflicting reports on his age, as he was initially said to be 35 years old in a statement released by an emergency response coordination center, while law enforcement sources said he was 58 years old.
A well-placed source said: “It all happened very fast.
“The lifeguard pulled her out of the water and stabilized her with CPR, but sadly she died shortly after arriving at the hospital.”

Health sources confirmed that he had died in the Emergency Room of the Doctor José Molina Hospital.
A source from the Civil Guard also confirmed the death of the British woman, adding: “A routine investigation is being carried out, but there is nothing to indicate criminality in what happened.
“The results of the autopsy will be sent to the investigating court and the police will be instructed to carry out any further investigation if deemed appropriate.
“The autopsy will shed more light on what exactly happened.”
Playa Blanca, on the south side of Lanzarote, is considered the third largest tourist area on the island.
It has one of the best marinas on the island and is close to the Papagayo beaches with their white sand and crystal clear waters.
At the end of last month, two young people who were on vacation with their families died within hours of each other after the tragedies of the Spanish swimming pools.
A three-year-old boy drowned in a pool in Pilar de la Horadada, near Torrevieja, on the Costa Blanca, around 9:00 p.m. on August 27.
Local reports said that a second six-year-old boy believed to be a relative discovered the boy in the water and alerted his parents.
