Former Irish rugby captain Brian O’Driscoll is among several angel investors who have backed Irish electric scooter start-up Zipp Mobility in a € 500,000 funding round.
The investment brings funding to date to over € 1 million, and the funding will be used for the planned launch of the company in Great Britain.
Zipp Mobility, which was founded last year by Charlie Gleeson, received approval from the UK Department for Transport last week to use its e-scooters in shared scheme tests.
The company is in talks with various councils in Britain to obtain licenses to provide services there after the government announced plans to accelerate testing of rented electric scooter schemes as part of its strategy to explore transportation alternatives in the wake of the pandemic. of the coronavirus.
Handlebar wraps
The Zipp e-scooter features an aircraft grade aluminum frame, 10-inch airless tires, an interchangeable battery, double braking, a wide base, and a low center of gravity. The scooters are also equipped with nano-septic handlebar wraps which, according to commissioning, reduce the risk of Covid-19 transmission by 99.98 percent.
Zipp is based at NovaUCD and is a High Potential Startup Client (HPSU) of Enterprise Ireland.
The start-up claims that its e-scooter has a lifespan of more than two years, compared to the estimated industry average for shared scooters of just three months.
