EIGHT Covid-19 related deaths have been confirmed in a nursing home in Limerick.
The health firm that manages the healthcare center has confirmed the tragic news in a statement issued this Monday afternoon. All the deaths occurred during the last fortnight.
“Unfortunately, and sadly, we must confirm that we have eight deaths related to Covid-19. This has been very disturbing for everyone, especially their loved ones. We would like to extend our deepest condolences to all their extended families and friends,” he said. the CEO of the company.
The company also said that several staff members working at the facility had tested positive for Covid-19 before the Christmas period.
Subsequently, the spotlight confirmed, most of the staff have tested positive for the virus.
“As we are now three weeks after this outbreak, a large number of these personnel are now recovering and returning to work,” they said.
“We are fortunate that our senior management team are highly experienced physicians. Working together with the management team (in the spotlight), they immediately enacted our contingency plan and put all infection prevention and control measures in place, ”they said.
The firm has been communicating daily with the Covid-19 outbreak control team within the HSE along with local doctors.
“Working together we are ensuring a collective approach and we have been monitoring the situation daily to contain and control the outbreak to protect our residents and our staff. Being part of a larger group means we have additional resources behind us, and we have been fortunate to have our complement of staff from across the country, as well as HSE and agency staff, ”the statement added.
“The support we have received from the Covid-19 outbreak control team, our local GPs, and our staff has been extremely helpful throughout this time.
“Most of our staff have tested positive for Covid-19, as we are three weeks away from this outbreak, a large number of these staff have recovered and returned to work.
“The last three weeks have been a scenario of daily escalation, but recent Covid-19 smear test results have indicated that the outbreak has stabilized and we look forward to another tough week before the cycle is complete. We are currently scheduling a vaccine launch (at the end of this month), and this cannot be fast enough, ”the statement concluded.
Earlier this Monday, the launch of the Pfizer / BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine began at Limerick University Hospital.
