The second of the Co-Op Superstores Cork Premier SHC quarterfinals kicks off this afternoon and it promises to be insane.

At 2pm, Blackrock and Douglas will meet in Páirc Uí Chaoimh in a mouth-watering derby in the south, with a semi-final place against Na Piarsaigh or UCC at stake.

Ger Cunningham and Mark Landers join Colm O’Connor in the comments, with our coverage starting at 1:40 PM.

Here’s our preview of the game:

SHC Premier Quarter-finals: Blackrock v Douglas, Páirc Uí Chaoimh (C McAllister), 2:00 p.m.

Blackrock was unlucky enough not to stay with the seeded and accompanying semi-final and instead must negotiate the challenge from their city rivals, who will remain encouraged after their win over Midleton.

Alan Connolly and Tadhg Deasy were in excellent form for Blackrock during the group stage and although the latter missed the final match, against Bishopstown, they welcomed Michael O’Halloran. Shane Kingston, Alan Cadogan and Brian Turnbull share Douglas’s scoring load. Eoin Cadogan, Mark Harrington and Stephen Moylan provide presence and experience in the middle third.

Verdict: Black Rock.

Rockies manager Fergal Ryan spoke with Eoghan Cormican this week about his success as a minor and the prospects for moving him to the top grade.

Be sure to return to the Irish Examiner GAA page at 7pm for the remaining quarterfinal tie between Na Piarsaigh and UCC.
