Biden now leads in Pennsylvania and Georgia as he approaches 270 electoral college votes

DEMOCRATIC JOE BIDEN has just taken the lead as vote counting continues in America’s crucial transitional state of Pennsylvania, and previously also took the lead in Georgia, another key state.

Biden was ahead of Trump by 5,597 according to figures reported by the state just before 2 p.m. today.

Following a new vote report, he now leads by 6,817.

The events put the former vice president in a strong position to obtain the 270 electoral college votes needed to seal the presidency.

President Trump had been ahead in both states and had a lead of about 600,000 in Pennsylvania on Wednesday morning.

Yet Biden has consistently closed the gap in both states as the postal ballots have been counted.

Throughout the campaign, Biden encouraged his supporters to vote by mail due to fears about the coronavirus pandemic. Trump repeatedly cast doubt on the integrity of the postal process and asked his voters to attend in person on Election Day.

Biden took the lead in Georgia earlier this morning, and is now ahead by more than 1,000 votes with 99% of the vote counted.

In a statement this afternoon, the Trump campaign said that “this election is not over.”

The statement claimed these were “false projections” for Biden and says Trump will be re-elected.

A spokesperson for Biden’s campaign said: “As we said on July 19, the American people will decide this election. And the US government is perfectly capable of escorting intruders out of the White House. “
