Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who recently tested positive for the new coronavirus, has been admitted to hospital.

A statement from his spokesman said the media mogul was transferred to San Raffaele hospital in Milan last night after suffering “certain symptoms”, but that “there was no cause for concern.”

However, the ANSA news agency said Berlusconi had early-stage pneumonia.

Earlier, the AGI news agency said that Berlusconi, who will turn 84 later this month, was hospitalized in a room that he often occupies while on the premises.

AGI said this indicates that his condition is not serious, or he would be in intensive care.

Licia Ronzulli, a senator from Berlusconi’s Forza Italia party, said the former prime minister “spent the night in hospital to check on his condition … but he’s fine.”

Berlusconi announced Wednesday that he had tested positive for the new coronavirus and was self-quarantined at home.

Two of his children, his daughter Barbara, 36, and his son Luigi, 31, have also contracted the virus, as has his partner Marta Fascina.
