Police investigating house parties in South Belfast found a group of people hiding in a bathroom this morning.
Some of those present received community resolution notices, while the behavior of others resulted in notices of fixed fines.
A string of arrests for a variety of coronavirus-related crimes follows in the Holyland district near Queen’s University in recent days.
And it comes as localized coronavirus restrictions will be introduced in Belfast and Ballymena.
PSNI Chief Inspector Gavin Kirkpatrick said: “Some young people who have moved to the area to continue their studies, and others who visit the area, are not listening to our repeated warnings.
“Together with universities and colleges, we have made several calls for young people to follow the latest health and safety tips and we have highlighted the importance of being good neighbors.
“Last night, we gave advice and guidance at various residential properties. However, 18 of the people we spoke to did not understand the seriousness of the situation.”
Police issued 10 community resolution notices and eight fixed fine notices, which carry a £ 60 fine.
The PSNI has dedicated “substantial resources” to policing this area over the next several weeks and says it will “vigorously” address any antisocial behavior and criminal offenses.
College classes will resume in the coming weeks.
Mr. Kirkpatrick said: “Where appropriate, we will now contact universities and colleges who will consider their own sanctions against the students involved.
“Our message is very clear: All students should follow the health and safety advice and specific guidelines on multi-occupancy houses provided by universities.
“Only six people, from a maximum of two different households, can meet inside a private home.”
