Aidan O’Brien’s four scheduled riders at Qatar’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe have been withdrawn from the race after positive urine samples indicated the presence of a prohibited substance in contaminated feed.
O’Brien was due to present Japan, Sovereign, Mogul and Serpentine against Enable at ParisLongchamp on Sunday, as John Gosden’s mare tries to win the big race for an unprecedented third time.
However, none of the quartet members will participate after it was learned Saturday night that they tested positive for a prohibited substance, believed to be zilpaterol, from Gain Equine Nutrition feed lots.
His absence was announced via a Tweet on O’Brien’s official Ballydoyle patio account.
It read: “Unfortunately, the results of the urine samples taken from the horses yesterday came back positive in the French laboratory.
“There is a possibility that the contaminant has left your system by the time of tomorrow’s races, however, we have no guarantee of this, and to protect the integrity of the races, we have decided to withdraw all our horses from the races. in the morning”.
“Joseph and Donnacha O’Brien will do the same.”
Last Thursday, O’Brien’s classic dual heroine Love was pulled from the Arc after the final stage of loss due to soft ground concerns.
