The quarterfinals of the BALLINCOLLIG Premier Senior Football Championship against Nemo Rangers this Sunday are postponed due to a case of Covid-19 at the club.
The club as a whole is now allowed to resume training and matches after a player tested positive for Covid earlier this week. Ballincollig shut down all activity Wednesday morning for 48 hours as a precautionary measure after news of the positive case broke.
Having stopped all training and games, the junior section will return on Friday, but the HSE regulations will still affect the senior team this weekend.
Anyone in the club who considers themselves a close contact of the positive case must restrict their movements until September 26, per HSE guidelines, even after receiving the negative tests for Covid-19.
This leaves Ballincollig without several players for the clash with the county champions.
Last Sunday, the Cork County Board postponed the SAHC relegation tiebreaker between Killeagh and Bride Rovers due to a positive Covid case. Since then, that game has been rescheduled for the end of September.
Anyone who undergoes a Covid test but has not been considered a close contact of a positive case can return to GAA within 48 hours of their negative result.
The Ballincollig and Nemo winners will currently face Duhallow or Valley Rovers in the PSFC semi-final on September 26. Castlehaven will face Newcestown or St Finbarr’s on the other side of the frame.
The club explained on Wednesday: “As a precautionary measure all activity at Ballincollig Hurling and Football Club has been temporarily suspended as of this morning, September 16.
“This is because a club member tested positive for Covid-19. We will inform club members of any developments within the next 24 hours.
“Please follow public health guidelines at all times and respect the confidentiality of everyone involved.
“Thank you and stay safe.”
Previously, Inniscarra’s senior camouflage quarterfinals against Glen Rovers were also delayed a week, due to a player awaiting test results that later turned out to be negative.
