The victim had left the game when a gray Mercedes pulled up next to him and two men got out and started attacking him.

A third man was waiting in the car.

Fortunately, the victim’s injuries were only “minor” according to Gardai, but the thugs took his jacket with his wallet in their pocket.

A spokesperson said: “Gardaí is asking for witnesses in relation to a robbery and assault incident in Fermoy on September 19, 2020.

At around 7:30 p.m., Gardaí received a report that a man’s jacket and wallet had his jacket and wallet stolen after attending a bowling game at Glenabo Woods. The man’s wallet is believed to have contained a substantial amount of cash.

“Two men wearing ski masks got out of a gray Mercedes car and attacked the man with what is believed to be a baseball bat. A third man, also wearing a ski mask, was waiting in the car that left the scene in the direction of Cullenagh Fermoy and in forward to Cappagh Crosss after the assault.

“The injured man then attended Cork University Hospital with minor injuries and was later released.

“The Gardaí is requesting witnesses to this incident or anyone who was in the general Fermoy area, particularly the Glenabo Woods, Cullenagh and Cappagh Crosss areas, who may have seen something unusual. Gardaí is particularly attractive to any user of the road with camera footage to contact Fermoy Garda Station at 025-82100. “
